Prices recorded represent the published dealer asking prices in USD. They do not include dealer doc fees, sales tax, registration, or post-negotiation auction sale settlements.

How are VINs validated in the Cars.com dataset?
VINs are extracted directly from dealer listings and verified against the standard 17-character alphanumeric NHTSA checksum formula (excluding I, O, and Q). Records with invalid or masked VINs are flagged explicitly.
Can I request a filtered export for specific states or vehicle makes?
Yes. Custom exports can be filtered by US state (e.g. California, Texas, Florida), vehicle make/model, minimum model year, price range, or body style to fit your pipeline.
What formats are available for bulk export?
We deliver datasets in Apache Parquet (compressed with Zstandard), SQLite 3 with pre-built indexes on VIN and listing ID, or RFC 4180-compliant CSV files.
How are delisted vehicles tracked?
Our verification workers re-check active URLs. When a listing is removed by the dealer or the portal returns a 404/inactive state, the record receives a delisted timestamp to measure observed Days on Market (DOM).
